Fall is a busy season in the Sevier Valley. School schedules are back in full swing, the days are getting shorter, and there always seems to be one more job to finish before the weather turns. If you have been meaning to try a massage chair but are not sure what it involves, this guide walks you through a first session at Relax & Restore, start to finish.
What makes this different from a spa massage
Every massage at our studio happens in a Human Touch zero gravity massage chair. There is no therapist and no one else hovering over you. You stay fully clothed, you choose a program, and the chair does the work. For a lot of people, that is the appeal: it is relaxing without any of the awkwardness some feel about a traditional massage, and it fits into a 20-minute break.
Before you come
- Book ahead. You can book online in about a minute, or call or text 435-200-3381.
- Wear comfortable clothes. Soft, flexible clothing works best. Jeans are fine, but stretchy pants or joggers let the rollers and air cells do their job a little better.
- Empty your pockets. A phone, wallet, or keys in a back pocket will get in the way of the rollers. Set them aside before you sit down.
- Skip the big meal. Reclining with a full stomach and feeling the chair work around your middle is not much fun. A light snack is better.
- Take off bulky items. Heavy coats, thick belts, and chunky jewelry can make the session less comfortable.
When you arrive
We are at 163 N Main St in Richfield. Check in, and we will show you to a chair and explain the basics. Slip off your shoes, sit all the way back so your shoulders touch the backrest, and place your arms and legs into the compression areas.
Finding the zero gravity position
Once you start, the chair reclines until your legs rise above the level of your heart. This is the zero gravity position. Your weight spreads out across the chair and pressure comes off your spine and lower back. The first time it happens it can feel a little strange. Let your head rest back and let the chair hold you.
Picking your first program
The chairs have 38 programs, from gentle and relaxing to deep and focused, plus bend and stretch programs that work on your back and hips. With that many choices, it helps to have a plan for your first visit:
- Start gentle. A lighter, relaxing program lets you learn how the chair feels. You can always choose something deeper next time.
- Save the stretch programs for later. They are a favorite once you know the chair, but they move you more, so they can be a surprise on day one.
- Ask us. Tell us what feels tight, whether it is your neck from a long drive or your feet from a day on concrete, and we will point you to a good starting program.
What you will feel during the session
A 20-minute session covers a lot of ground:
- Your back: 4D rollers travel from your neck down your spine to your thighs, moving up and down, side to side, and in and out at different speeds.
- Your shoulders, arms, and hands: air cells gently squeeze and release in a kneading rhythm.
- Your calves and feet: their own massage and compression, with warmth that feels especially good on a cold October evening.
If anything feels too strong, let us know or stop the session. A massage chair should feel good, not like something to push through.
Simple tips to enjoy it more
- Put the phone away. Twenty quiet minutes is rare in most days. Close your eyes and let it be a real break.
- Breathe slowly. Long, easy breaths help your shoulders drop and let the rollers work on muscles that are not braced.
- Get up slowly. After the chair returns upright, sit for a moment before standing.
- Drink some water afterward and notice how your back and legs feel the rest of the day.
Pair it with the sauna
A chair session on its own is $30. For a longer reset, add a private 25-minute infrared sauna session with chromotherapy. Many people like to warm up in the sauna first and finish in the chair. Coming with someone? Our Date Night Special is $50 for two: side by side chair massages, then a private sauna together.
If you want to come back often
If one session turns into a habit, the Daily Massage Plan is $60 a month and includes a 20-minute session every day we are open. That pays for itself in two visits. You can learn more on our massage chair page or check our hours on the visit page.
General wellness information, not medical advice. If you are pregnant, have an injury, or have a medical condition, please check with your doctor before using a massage chair.
